Git Emergency

I have to apply review changes to my PR

Severity Minor

What just happened

A pull request follows its branch. Every commit pushed to it appears in the PR; there is no need to open a new one.

Potential risks

  • Force pushing during a review makes it harder for reviewers to see what changed.

Before you run anything

  • During review, prefer new commits. Squash at the end (or let โ€œSquash and mergeโ€ do it).

Recovery steps

  1. 1

    Fix and push

    Reply to each comment with what you changed.

    Safe
    $ git add .
    $ git commit -m "fix: review comments"
    $ git push
  2. 2

    Or target a precise commit

    A fixup commit, merged into the right one later.

    Safe
    $ git commit --fixup <hash>
    $ git push
  3. 3

    Tidy before merge

    Folds the fixups into their commits. Rewrites the branch.

    Caution
    $ git rebase -i --autosquash origin/main
    $ git push --force-with-lease
