What just happened

A PR shows every commit of your branch that the base doesn't have. If you branched from someone else's branch, their commits come along.

Potential risks

  • Rewriting your branch: force push needed.

Before you run anything

  • Backup branch first.

Recovery steps

  1. 1

    Backup and list your commits

    Note the hash of the first commit that is really yours.

    Safe
    $ git branch backup/pr
    $ git log --oneline origin/main..HEAD
  2. 2

    Replay only your commits on main

    <last-not-mine> = the commit just before your first one.

    Caution
    $ git rebase --onto origin/main <last-not-mine> my-branch
  3. 3

    Update the PR

    The extra commits disappear from the PR.
